Brighton based singer-songwriter, Si Connelly signed with Chrysalis, EMI in 2004 at just 21, after dropping out of art collage. His debut EP, ‘Baby I’m Tired’ achieved backing from Jonathan Ross and Radio 2. In 2007, Si signed with Sony/RCA but requested to leave the label in 2009 due to artistic differences.
Whilst struggling in the post Sony vacuum, and with zero budget, Si approached Brit-Award winning producer Chris Potter to re-record his debut album.
Released on West One in 2016, ‘Youth/War/Joy’, produced by Chris Potter (Verve) and Dom Morley (Amy Winehouse) features single ‘Hurt You’, which charted at 22 in the UK iTunes chart and was an international lead-sync on ITV & Fox, after being personally tipped by Coldplay.
The songs fan-made video peaked at over a quarter of a million YouTube plays. The album also features single ‘Lights’ which achieved over 3 million views on YouTube.
Si self-produced 2017, single Lion House received 6Music backing and BBC Introducing support.
In 2017, after over 200 shows worldwide in just 18 months, Si self-released his second album ‘Eject’. Eject is an expansive 23-track double-album, recorded over a ten-year period between 2004 and 2014. Eject was produced by a host of award-winning producers including Chris Potter (Verve), Dom Morley (Amy Winehouse), Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys), Sam Williams (Supergrass), Jaz Rogers (Charlie XCX) Bacon & Quarmby (Finley Quaye), among many other self-produced tracks.
After a successful Pledge Music campaign, Si continued to tour Eject throughout 2017 and 2018, with the massive 76-date UK tour coming to a close in London in May 2018, where Si performed his final show. Si retired from playing live and shifted his focus to recording, writing and releases.
Si also features on tracks by double Mobo winning grime artist Guvna B, In Hoodies and Annie Lennox. In 2018, UK Voice winner Stevie McCrorie released ‘Island’, which was co-written by Si.
Si was also in the critically acclaimed underground band El Born, and is currently in the band Goldbirds.
After completing a BA Honours degree in Music Production in 2018, Si set up his own company, ‘Dead Rabbit Group’ to focus on releasing feature albums, songwriting, books and travel projects.
In August 2018, Si released the ’13 Ghosts’ EP. 13 Ghosts contains every remaining unreleased recording from his extensive back catalog. In an interview with Balcony TV, Si stated that 13 Ghosts was a love letter to himself. “I had to release these tracks before I could contemplate moving forward with any new albums”.
Si’s self-produced third album ‘Change’ is scheduled for release early 2019.
